So today was National Poetry Day here in Trinidad and to commemorate this awesome day, The Circle of Poets of TT, hosted their annual celebration at NALIS, Port of Spain. This year was really special as our Poet Laureate of Trinidad & Tobago, Mr. Paul Keens-Douglas was present and shared a bit of his work with us. This was truly enjoyable for me. Paul has such a bold eloquence about him as he takes command of the stage to deliver poetry that is witty, informative, expressive and flavoured with our colourful Trini dialect. We were also treated with amazing poetry performances by Dennis Joseph, Kenneth "Bro'ken" De Peana
Celeste Peters, Michelle Scipio, Kevin Grant, Patricia Dalrymple and Gillian Viechweg.
I made some new friends tonight in the Circle of Poets and hope to meet with these talented poets again at their bi monthly meetings.
One beautiful line that stayed with me from Paul's speech, "We share a moment together, frozen in time... this moment we will never have again"
Thanks to all you wonderful people at NALIS and The Circle of Poets for sharing the moment of this evening...poetry and laughs, wine and cheese and of course the interchange of encouragement writers like us need :)
